Becoming a parent is the greatest experience in life, but the journey to get there doesn’t come easily for everyone. For some individuals, the thought of having a baby feels more like a dream than a reality.
Every situation is unique, but some people can’t have children of their own because of infertility. In many cases, same-sex couples dream of being parents but can’t have a baby on their own. And sometimes single people want to expand their family by having a baby.
At The Fertility Agency, we believe everyone has the right to fulfill their dream of becoming a parent. That’s why we work with intended parents from all over the world, regardless of their marital status, age, or sexual orientation.
So, can anyone get a surrogate? Our answer is yes. Whether you have a medical need for a surrogate or not, whether you’re married or not, whether you’re in a heterosexual relationship or not, you can pursue surrogacy.
Can a single man get a surrogate?
Yes, any single man or woman can have a baby through a surrogate. You do not have to be married to start the surrogacy process at The Fertility Agency.
Can I be a parent if my partner or myself is HIV+?
Yes, however you need to get clearance through your IVF clinic. They will connect you with a lab or program that can wash your sperm so there is a zero viral count load and your sperm will not cause any viral exposure to your surrogate or unborn child. While some surrogates still do not want to take this very minimal risk, others will, and we will work to match you with a surrogate who is open to this. We have never had an intended parent who is HIV+ not find a match.
How do I start the surrogacy process?
If you’re an intended parent, the first step is setting up a complimentary consultation to discuss your needs. Intended parents will need an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) clinic to create embryos, either with their own egg or sperm, or with an egg and/or sperm donor.
During the consultation, you will speak with one of our agency co-founders. They will answer all your questions about surrogacy (and egg donation, if you need one) and discuss your specific needs.
How do I know the surrogate is a good match for me?
We are experts at helping intended parents find the right surrogate. We take all of your desires into consideration – including how much communication you want (before, during and after the pregnancy), how many embryos are transferred and where the surrogate lives. While you come into this as strangers, your relationship will grow and hopefully, you may someday become friends. Surrogates often have requirements they are looking for as well, which our True Match™ experts take into consideration.
Our goal is to match you with a surrogate who is:
- Screened
- Healthy
- Communicative
- Supported by family and friends
- Appreciative of the pregnancy experience
Thanks to True Match™, we have a 98% success rate with matching IPs and surrogates. It’s rare for IPs to turn down their first match.
The Bottom Line: Anyone Can Have a Baby Through Surrogacy
Can anyone get a surrogate? Yes. We believe that everyone, no matter who they partner with or what gender they identify with, has the right to be a parent. For example, we have helped bring over 750 babies (and counting!) into the world for LGBTQ+ singles and couples since 2004. You don’t have to be in a heterosexual relationship (or in a relationship at all) to have a baby through surrogacy.
Our entire staff is familiar and passionate about the specific needs of all parent/s’ journeys and we are here to guide you through every step of the process — from our first contact until post-delivery, including a safe return home as a family.
Our surrogates and egg donors are also passionate about helping any person who dreams of becoming a parent, and they love the relationship that they have with their intended parents. No matter who you are, we want your surrogacy journey to be inclusive and supportive and can recommend you to top-rated clinics, lawyers, and other professionals who will provide you with a compassionate and supportive overall experience.
